Aiza and John’s engagement session at Henry Cowell Redwood State Park

I think this engagement session takes the cake for how early in the day we started. We wanted to head out to Henry Cowell Redwood state park for Aiza and John’s engagement session. I have never been there and wanted to make sure we got there really early to catch the morning sun as it peeked over the redwoods. I arrived at Aiza and John’s place at 5am to ride out to Heny Cowell Redwoods for the shoot. It was still dark out and their place overlooked a beautiful cityscape, so we decided to take a couple of pictures with their lovable Siberian husky before heading out. Of course we had to make the obligatory Starbucks stop first!

When we arrived at the park an hour and a half later, it was still dark. I was glad for that because I really wanted to be there for the first light. Well, it was worth it! The sun came up and lit a thin blanket of mist that covered a golden meadow. The moon was still visible and the feeling was awe inspiring. It was absolutely magical to be there. We spent the next few hours walking around the park and enjoying the day before heading back. Here are a few pictures from the engagement shoot.

Ten years ago, I left the mortgage and real estate business to pursue photography, which is a passion of mine. The mortgage business was excellent at that time but I was tired of it. I had a daughter that was just born and I wanted to do something that would allow me to spend more time with her and at the same time do what I wanted. I knew that I enjoyed people photography and soon discovered that I have a very real and special talent for it. I discovered that I was particularly good at capturing moments and revealing emotions through pictures. This came instinctively for me and allowed me to develop a style that was very comfortable for me to work in. My photography quickly became popular in the bay area and I've earned a large number of referral businesses as a result. In fact, i'd say I most of my business growth is the result of referrals from clients and online sites like Yelp. I currently have a studio in downtown San Jose and photograph weddings and portraits all over the bay area and California.
